I call myself the Whiskyvert because I am an extrovert to some, an introvert to most, but a whiskyvert to all.

I was born in Scotland but grew up in Texas. After a brief stint as a private investigator, I dove into the drinks business in 1987. I have worked in the on-premise as restaurant/bar manager. Wholesale salesman and manager. I briefly managed a retail liquor store. I owned a successful spirits brokerage for 12 years. I was the state manager for a liquor importer for several years.
I am certified by the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 Spirits, Level 3 Sake and Level 2 Wine. I am also a certified instructor for Level 1 & 2 Spirits.
I have been lucky enough to meet many whisky luminaries, including Booker Noe, Billy Walker, Jimmy Russell, John Campbell, John Teeling, Mickey Heads, Michael Jackson, and many, many others.
I have written 2 books about Japanese whisky and one guide to tasting Bourbon & Rye. Beginning in 2019 I became the spirits instructor for the Texas Wine School in Houston. I am currently helping a few small companies navigate their way through the retail environment in Texas.
